His lisp won't be going away any time soon.

The void on this shelf is where my PTA treasurer files used to sit.  I just dropped them off for the yearly audit.  It has been a lot of learning and work, but mostly a good thing because I've gotten to know a lot of people from the kids' school that I wouldn't have otherwise.  I'm content knowing that this space is unoccupied for the next month, requiring no thought of PTA.  But I'll be getting all the files back, as I've agreed to be the treasurer again this school year.

We've come to the point when Bailey sometimes needs a nap, but not every day.  So when she doesn't get a nap, I run the danger of her falling asleep on the couch at 5:00, and not going to bed until 10:00.  What's a mom to do?

Jeff and Sydney were out to guitar lessons and shopping this morning, and didn't get back until the rest of us were finished with lunch.   They stopped at Wendy's on the way home and brought it back to eat at the house.  Bailey saw it and naturally wanted some. I unsuccessfully tried to remind her that she already had lunch.  She just kept wailing, "I can't find my lunch!"  I didn't know whether to feel bad or laugh.  So I took a picture.

I suppose I still don't have an answer to my question...
At least she's more organized about it now.

(Not much is going on around here these lazy summer days.)
Here's another shot from the home videos.  This was Erik's first birthday.  Sometimes when I'm out and I see a family with one or two little kids, I think about about all the things they'll still have to go through with their kids.  I'm glad to be at the phase I am.  But when I watch these videos it's really hard to not want my kids to be little again.

The kids were making movies today, so I let them use our old VHS video recorder.  While I had it out I couldn't resist hooking it up to our tv to watch some old home movies.
I was shown on the video taking this very picture.  This baby boy so dang cute.

After nearly three years of talking about it, we finally got a decent grill.  And I have a new favorite food.  If you have access to a grill, I implore you to try this.

This isn't my picture.  I was too busy eating.

(Another fuzzy cellphone picture)
Sydney's dream came true today.  Hardly a day goes by that she doesn't suggest some grand outing for our family.  Usually it gets nixed because of weather, laundry/housework, piano/guitar lessons, or laziness.  Bowling has been a regular request, usually made on a friday or saturday night.  Jeff and I have been to the bowling alley on a saturday night, and it's certainly not somewhere we'd take kids.  But we figured saturday afternoon might be safe.  We were pleasantly surprised.  It was bright and smoke-free.  We'll definitely be going back someday.  But don't tell Sydney, because she'll drive me crazy.

Today was the last day of 4 weeks of swim lessons.  With the exception of one dud teacher, it's been really great.  The classes only have a few kids, so they get lots of practice time.  There was time a few years ago when I was ready to accept that my kids would never know how to swim.  But they've come a long way.  In the above picture, Erik's in the middle with the goggles on, being "Marco."

I hope some day we'll have awesome 4th of Julys again.  Today was at least a step up from what we normally do, which is practically nothing.  We started with a patriotic program/pancake breakfast at the church, followed by a long day of Syndey suggesting elaborate activities for us to do.  Once Jeff got off work we grilled some dinner and went to the city fireworks.  I can only assume the fireworks are better if you sit closer.  We were too far away and underwhelmed.

It's hard to stay in a bad mood with this little Cha-Cha around.

July 2, 2013

Ryan's latest thing these days is to tell me he's bored when he has to do something that he doesn't want to do.  Tonight I made him clean up the disaster he made in the loft.  He said, "I'm bored!" no less than five times.  Oh, I'm sorry.  I didn't know cleaning made you bored.  By all means, stop immediately and do something funner.

Post #47 about the boys and Wipeout
Is there anything better than a summer night of playing Wipeout while watching Wipeout?  I think not.

Minnie Lucinda and Ludwig Larson
Several years ago my parents sent me a CD with old photos of some of our family.  I did a sharing time in Primary today about ancestors and family history.  I began by showing some of the pictures of my ancestors.  The kids (and teachers) were fascinated. It was a hit!  Thanks Mom and Dad.
