How did you spend your saturday afternoon?  Jeff and I GOT to spend ours at cub scout Spook-a-ree.  It started off with four scouts in our backseat, telling Jeff the closest place to get gas/how to get to the campsite/discussing the disadvantages of using too much deodorant, and ended with Jeff and I covered in dust in places that dust shouldn't be.  The middle was filled with face painting, bathroom breaks, spitting, bouncy houses, pumpkin painting, bathroom breaks, archery, BB guns, and bathroom breaks.
Honestly, we have a nice little group of cub scouts.  We were happy to take them and they were sufficiently respectful and grateful.

Tonight's totally healthy delicious snack, apples nachos.  Basically apple slices drizzled with caramel and melted chocolate.
It looks like maybe Bailey's had too many.

Cute little buddies

October 23, 2013

Remember the hail storm that blew through last May?  Well it destroyed everyone's roofs.  This week was our turn to get ours replaced.
For two BAM straight days BAM BAM I listened to BAM the pounding BAM BAM above me.  BAM BAM BAM Kind of BAM gives you BAM a headache, BAM BAM doesn't it?

Happy Birthday Shelbi!

She's been looking forward to number 12 for a long time.  And now, 12 things that make Shelbi, Shelbi.
1.  She hasn't voluntarily worn jeans since kindergarten.  For a couple of years she wouldn't even wear pants.
2.  She rocks her cute glasses.
3.  She's better at math than I am.
4.  She has a fantastic laugh.
5.  For a get-to-know-you project at school, she had to tell who her hero is.  She said her sister Sydney.  I might have cried a little.
6.  She eats weird things for snacks.
7.  She has always loved to make up games for her younger siblings.
8.  She likes to be in charge.
9.  She doesn't like conflict.  Syd and I once played a trick on Jeff for April Fools Day and she wouldn't even be in the same room when we were doing it.
10.  She just started playing the flute last year and this year made district band.  She was the only sixth grader at her school to do this.
11.  She has darling dimples.
12.  She's a really good friend.

Another Halloween play group in New Jersey.  This was 2005.  I love the look on Sydney's face as Shelbi's spider tickles her.

Halloween 2003

This was the first Halloween costume I ever had to come up with.    The kids were always too young for trick or treating in New Jersey.  But we were invited to a Halloween party play group at church.  Shelbi already had this leopard print jacket, so it was a no-brainer.  I just added the nose and whiskers.

October 19, 2013

Erik went to a birthday party this afternoon, and this whoopee cushion was in his goody bag.  "This is the best prize EVER!" said the six year old boy.

October 18, 2013

A super blurry picture of the view from my chair as the kids played Just Dance tonight.  I think Bailey's singing?

October 17, 2013

Have I expressed lately how much I love this swing set?  Because I really, really do.

October 16, 2013

Tonight I picked Shelbi up from Young Women's.  This is a girl who is over the moon excited to be a Young Woman soon.  She technically won't be 12 until October 22, but they invited her to start attending the Wednesday night activities early because they are preparing for a program that will take place in November.  Apparently, it's way better than boring old Activity Days, which is the activities for 8-11 year old girls.

I don't want to make you feel bad, but our librarian is way cooler than yours.  She has pajama story time every tuesday night.  She's uninhibited, energetic, and animated.  The kids adore her.  Even I like to sit and listen to her tell stories.  Although I don't show up in my pajamas.

October 14, 2013

October's awesome.
This was 2009, the first year the girls got to carve their pumpkins by themselves.

October 13, 2013

It's totally normal to play the computer with underwear on your head, right?

Hogle Zoo, July 2010
Every time we go to the zoo, we must take a picture of the kids next to the silhouette of gorillas.  Just above this it says, "How do you measure up?"  This was the last time we went to this zoo.  I don't want to even think about how much closer my kids are to measuring up to the male gorilla.

When I picked up Ryan today, he was wearing this shiny new medal.  He was awarded it today for being the second fastest kindergartener to finish the Fun Run.  (I like how the shark on his shirt looks like it's going to eat the medal.)

October 10, 2013

When I was growing up, my mom was very diligent about making us dinner each night.  Very rarely, usually on a saturday night, she would stray from the usual dinner fare and make us omelets.  It was a huge treat to me.
So Jeff's been out of town for five days and I thought I'd do something different for dinner tonight and made my kids omelets.
  See how well it went?

October 9, 2013

Jeff and I saw this recently and it was terrifying.  Apparently if you're afraid of heights (which I am) you're practically paralyzed by the idea of floating around space.  After the first ten minutes I didn't know if my heart to take any more.

October 8, 2013

Jeff and I have a running joke that it's hard to be Bailey, or IHTBB for short.  This is the latest example.
Go right ahead.  Sit really close to the big screen t.v., watching your favorite show in your jamas, while all other kids go to school.

October 7, 2013

A really awesome October 7th.  This was in 2006, in front of our new house.

October 6, 2013

I have this little pot of strawberries on my back porch that has been leafy green all Summer, but not producing much fruit.  What I didn't know is that we have a strawberry thief living among us.
I asked her if she was eating all the red ones, and she said "Yes!  And green ones!"

October 5, 2013

Today was the Fun Run for the elementary and middle schools.  Basically it's just a mile race, followed by hamburgers and activities for the kids.  If you want to know how it went this year, just read last year's post.  It was basically exactly the same.
The girls especially liked the addition of the rock climbing wall.

October 2, 2013

You know how after a busy day, lots of homework, and the other kids are in bed, you sit down to have a snack before hitting the hay yourself?  Don't you just crave a nice plate of beef stroganoff??
I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw Shelbi eating this midnight snack.  Especially when we have two flavors of ice cream in the freezer and all sorts of sundae toppings in the fridge from last night's banana splits.

October 1, 2013

The first red tomato I've been able to grow in Texas.  I remember picking bowls full of them in Michigan, more than I knew what to do with.  Texas is not good for my gardening self esteem.

September 30, 2013

When Erik sat down to do his writing this evening, Ryan set about cutting and pasting some very important homemade fall leaves to the tree he colored.  He kept calling it his homework.  He was still at the table long after Erik was done.

September 29, 2013

I read in a cookbook once that a smart thing to do is set the table as soon as you begin making dinner.  That way your family is tricked into thinking it's almost ready.
This table was set at 5:10 and dinner wasn't served until 6:05.  Not one kid came asked me if dinner was almost done.  In fact, Ryan came in from playing, saw the table, and said, "Ooh, it's almost time to eat!"

From Bailey's baby blessing weekend.

Visitors are fun.  Who wants to come for the weekend?

Jeff's in Utah hunting/camping with my dad and brothers.  He sent me this picture this morning:

This year's 'F.'
Perhaps next year I'll think of something new to do, but for now this sight makes me happy every time I drive up to my house.
