Shelbi took Sydney over to the middle school tonight.   The band and orchestra programs were letting incoming students try out the different instruments.  I agreed to let Sydney go as long as she didn't come back wanting to take band/orchestra next year.  We can hardly get her to practice her guitar.  I'm not about to add another instrument to the mix.
Shelbi took this picture for me.  Can you imagine Sydney trying to lug this thing back and forth from school?

It was a hard thing this morning sending a self-conscious twelve year old to school with new braces.  She was understandably not herself all day.  But when I caught her tonight making a pizza for a snack, I felt better about things.  That's the Shelbi I know.

February 24, 2014

It's a day for the history books at the Foster household.  First child to get braces.

Before

After
For the record, she was not happy about this.  She threw a bit of a fit when she found out the things she can't eat anymore (she loves to eat) and that she'll have to start cleaning her teeth after lunch at school (she hates anything that makes her stand out.)  This could be a long two years.

What is it about a Sunday evening that makes me want to tease so badly??  This poor little girl asked me what day tomorrow is, and I said it's Cha Cha Day.  The more she insisted it wasn't, the more I tried to convince her it was.  Mean mom.
"No Cha Cha Day!"

Jeff's sleeping today, so we spent some quality time at the park.

February 21, 2014

Tonight's spur-of-the-moment dinner date with Jeff was absolutely lovely.  We went to a little-known Italian restaurant, which meant we didn't have to wait for a table.  We sat at a cocktail table by the bar, which was too little to fit our shared pizza.  The waiter had to put it on a tray holder by our table.
What made it even better was the piano player singing songs from Neil Diamond to Garth Brooks to Styx.
And cannoli.  Mmmm.

I'm not sure how all the nonsense started tonight. Something about Bailey giving Ryan a wet willy.  Except she had chili on her finger which meant it was a…wait for it…chili willy.  The kids thought it was hilarious.

Since we go through a lot of ice cream around here, why waste time with a scoop that doesn't work (the one on the left).  The other two are stellar, and only about $5 at Walmart.
And since you didn't come here to see a lame picture of my ice cream scoops, here's a darling one of Bailey on a cool fall evening.

I want a vacation.

Proof that at one time Shelbi wasn't utterly terrified of dogs.

New shoe shelves.  It's a beautiful thing.

February 14, 2014

Class parties, super-secret Lego Valentine made by Erik, and dinner with the kids.  A fine day.

February 13, 2014

When this wave of stomach bug started with Shelbi on Sunday, and then hit Ryan and Bailey on Monday night, and me on Tuesday, I was just sure that today would be the day Sydney caught it.  You see, today was Battle of the Books.  It's basically a competition between the elementary schools in the city where the kids read the same ten challenging books and then answer questions about them in a game show type setting.  She's been reading books since October and going to school early twice a week to prepare for this.  Because of much hand washing, finger crossing, and praying, she went to school healthy today.  I was not able to go to the competition because Jeff had to work and Bailey couldn't be trusted to be quiet for two hours.  But an elated Sydney ran to me after school, proudly displaying her ribbon.  Her team took second place and won a trophy for the school.
Whew!

February 12, 2014

The day-after-being-sick laundry piles.  This is probably about a tenth of the laundry done in the last couple of days.

February 11, 2014

Ugh. So sick today.

Somebody's been taking pictures with my phone.

All the trees in Amarillo are covered in frost.  A rare time that Amarillo actually looks pretty.

February 8, 2014

That's more like it.  Warm enough for the kids to do their Spy Training.

February 7, 2014

Another school Sock Hop.  The differences between this year's dance and last year's? I didn't have the energy to dress up all the kids this time and I don't think Erik danced with his valentine.  In fact, he grumped around all night, until the DJ finally played a song that he recognized.  Then he just wandered off and danced by himself.  Silly boy.

June 2006
That ratty orange shirt Sydney is wearing is a legend in our family.  It was Shelbi's all-time favorite shirt when she was two and then passed on to Syd, who also adored it.  You can tell how loved it was by the stretched out neckline and sleeves.  When Sydney finally out-grew it, I cut out the little frog on the front and put it in her scrapbook.

I know it's February and all, but I did not sign up for this in Texas.

Jumping in the rain, summer 2010.

February 3, 2014

While I have been watching Jimmy Fallon videos, the girls have been addicted to Studio C, a comedy sketch show on BYUtv.

February 2, 2014

Since I had very little interest in the Super Bowl this year, (and it was a terrible game anyway), I sat next to Jeff on the couch, eating Super Bowl food and watching Jimmy Fallon clips.  This one was my favorite.

February 1, 2014

The Discovery Center in town has a new Lego exhibit.  There are life-sized knights, thrones, and castles all made out of Legos.  You would think I would have taken a picture of them.  But all I thought to snap was this fuzzy one of the kids jousting.

January 31, 2014

I had lunch with Syd today.  It was entertaining to watch the kids interact, noticing which girls wouldn't sit with the boys, listening to the chatter of lunchtime. I felt like I was in the 4th grade again.
