Bailey trying to round up someone to play football with her.
I don't promise I'll post everyday. I don't promise the pictures will be fantastic. I don't promise this will always be super interesting. But I'll try.

Five nice kids and a really great dad.
I promise Ryan's not naked. This was right before bed and he thinks it's really cool to sleep in pajama shorts and no shirt.

While putting sunscreen on this boy, he asked me not to put too much on because he still wanted to get more freckles.

This year's trip to Palo Duro Canyon was nearly interchangeable with last year's, except for the cool weather and water in the streams from all the rain we've had lately. Of course, the kids' favorite part was climbing.
It's hard to see, but Shelbi's all the way at the top of that rock, in the middle with her arms raised above her head. The kids climbed much higher up this time. Bailey, Grandma, and I kept ourselves entertained with playing Pictionary in the dirt.

If given the choice, Ryan will have crackers, cheese, and yogurt for lunch. He then stacks them all on top of each other. It reminds me of gross hors d'oeuvres. Bailey made her own strange version of them today.

Grandma Foster brought this game, Sleeping Queens, with her and the kids wanted to play it any chance they got.

Quality time with Grandma. Bailey's favorite part of Memory is telling the other players where the matches are.

The girls were supposed to be in California this week visiting Grandma and Grandpa Foster, but with Sydney's accident, the plans had to be changed. They came to us!
The evening was lovely, playing in the backyard. Then the storms rolled in and Mary and Tom were treated to a genuine Texas welcome with tornado sirens waking us at 1:00 AM. No damage done, just lots of spectacular thunder and lightning.

"Attack of the True Love's Kiss"- one of the more bizarre games the Foster boys have come up with.
I don't think I've ever heard Ryan laugh so hard.

Playing outside tonight, Sydney showed me the bite marks in her helmet. I didn't know she was wearing it when the dog attacked her. His teeth could have been in her head if she hadn't had her helmet on!

Last day of school
The girls requested end of year photos.
Ryan at kindergarten graduation with possibly the nicest kindergarten teacher ever.
Sydney was the recipient of the Principal's Award at her awards assembly.
With her best friend Emma, who is moving away in a month.

First day of school, 2007
Tomorrow is the last day of school. As we were putting the kids to bed, I was reminded of the night before the last day of kindergarten for Shelbi. She was saying her prayers and said, "Please bless me to have a good last day of school" and then broke down sobbing. This girl loved school. She came home from the bus the next day, crying again. She still likes school, but has come to appreciate summer break too.

If we ever move, I want to take the view from my kitchen window with me. Today while making dinner, I got to watch Ryan figure out how to ride without training wheels, while Bailey directed traffic.

Today was Erik's first school awards assembly. I had to gently let him know that the awards given out are certificates, not big trophies. I didn't want another disaster like we had at Sydney's first assembly, where she said through her tears, "What good is a stupid certificate going to do me??" This was the best smile I could get from this no-nonsense little boy.
Sydney really wanted to go back to school today. She doesn't feel the least bit self-conscious or pity for herself. But I made her stay home so I could watch her stitches for infection.
At Erik's assembly, I had many people come up to me to ask "How are you?" with a head tilt and inflection in their voice that meant "I know what happened this weekend" and not just "How's it going?"

Siddo.
When my kids are sick, I look forward to the time when they start to act like themselves again. It makes me feel like things are back to normal. I was looking for regular Sydney today, but she still wasn't there. The fog of the sedation had worn off, but the swelling and pain started today. She's on two antibiotics, two pain medications, and a tooth/gum cleaner. In all, she takes medicine eight times a day, with pain relief added in whenever needed. Blah.

June 2005
I really hated today. Sydney left to ride bikes with her friend this afternoon. A couple of hours later we got a frantic knock on our front door. It was her friend, telling us Sydney was bit by a dog. She was playing fetch with this friend's dog, when he turned on her. He came after her, and as she was running away, she slipped in the mud. The dog got on top of her and wouldn't let go. Thank heaven my neighbor was looking out her back window. She saw the dog chasing Sydney, but couldn't get to her soon enough for stop the dog. The neighbor said she could hardly pull the dog off of her. She had to have her father hold him back from attacking her again. I'm sure my neighbor was more shook up than anyone. She didn't know who Sydney was, so she called 911. We had a cul de sac full of police, firetruck, ambulance, and animal control. Sydney was relatively calm, holding a towel up to her mouth. I could see the cuts on her cheeks, and when I asked her to move the towel, I saw two teeth pulled out, dangling from her braces wire. I imagine the dog got his teeth on her braces and yanked. Sydney was in shock, which is good because I don't think she was processing the pain.
Thankfully, Jeff was home and knew just what to do. We declined the ambulance ride and headed off to the ER. In retrospect, I wish I had taken a moment to comfort Shelbi a little. She is terrified of dogs and this put her over the edge. I wasn't thinking too clearly at this point.
I could go on, but basically we had all the right people in the right place to put Sydney back together. Her dentist came in immediately to put her teeth back in. Jeff was geared up to do her stitches, but we convinced him to step back and let someone else take care of it. I can't imagine the pressure of stitching up my own daughter. He takes pressure much better than I.
We finally came back home six hours later. Our kids had been fed (a whole other story), Shelbi was calm, and we were exhausted. Syd was still woozy from being sedated. I just wanted my silly, sassy girl back.

Kindergarten career day
I had this boy convinced that he wanted to be a police officer (we have that Halloween costume) but the night before he changed his mind to firefighter. Since we don't have a firefighter costume, I started calling out different professions that we could throw together. Somehow, doctor went from draping a stethoscope around his neck and calling it good, to cutting down some of Jeff's old scrubs to Ry-Guy size. Jeff loved this. He even made a special trip to the hospital after 10 PM to get Ryan a cap. He makes a pretty handsome doctor, I must say.

You get a 2 for 1 today. We went to Sydney's talent show at 9:30, and had to rush off after her performance to catch Shelbi's awards assembly at the middle school at 10.
Last year Syd's talent show performance was a "Tango Skit." I'm not sure what she titled her talent this year. It started out as gymnastics, and ended with singing with two of her friends.
This girl was all smiles.

Pictures of my kids' end-of-school programs/performances? Get used to them.
This one I caught Shelbi during her solo.

You know those stickers people put on the back of their cars to announce that they've run a marathon? It says 26.2? I pulled up behind this car today:
This "runner" and I could totally be friends.
