While the cat's away, the mice will play. (Cat=Jeff, deer hunting)
I don't promise I'll post everyday. I don't promise the pictures will be fantastic. I don't promise this will always be super interesting. But I'll try.

Shelbi has long since passed learning math that I can remember how to do. Luckily Jeff's memory is better than mine and can still help her. Even when he's hundreds of miles away, deer hunting. Thank goodness for phones that can take pictures of homework problems for a dad to work out and text the help back to his daughter nearly instantaneously.

Bailey is obsessed with playing Slug Bug. She knows where certain VW bugs are permanently parked around town, and never fails to call them when we pass. She doesn't actually slug anyone yet. Probably because she can't reach anyone from her carseat.

I definitely had the best smelling car in Amarillo this morning. I was in charge of our donut breakfast at the elementary school and filled the back of my car with 60 dozen donuts. Yum.

"Football is stupid? What's stupid about football? What football celebrates is teamwork and character. That's what it celebrates. You live in Texas now. You love the game of football now. You just don't know it yet."
Coach Eric Taylor, Friday Night Lights
As an eighth grade band student, Shelbi was invited (required?) to play with the high school marching band during the homecoming game. She doesn't love football and wasn't exactly looking forward to this.
Our family took this opportunity to go to our first Texas high school football game. The stadium was impressive. The photo above is the visitors' stands. I'm pretty sure my high school visitor's seating was some splintered wooden bleachers with seating for a hundred people. Also, this stadium features concessions stands, a video instant replay, VIP suites, and tv/radio broadcasts. Perhaps this is standard for high schools these days. I don't know.
Isn't she cute??
Knowing this was the homecoming game, I was especially anxious to see the mums up close. The best way I can explain mums is that they're corsages on steroids. The tradition began with boys giving chrysanthemums to their dates before the game, but has evolved into Texas-sized craziness. The dates make them for each other. The boys wear armbands and the girls pin them to their shirts, although with the weight of them, I have no idea how they get them to stay.
I very slyly took these pictures with my phone. These mums aren't even the biggest one we saw tonight.

FINALLY!!
Day one of preschool. She goes twice a week for five hours. Just perfect for a mom who is looking forward to some free time but isn't ready to give up her buddy altogether.

Opening day for BYU football. Jeff and I are wearin' the heck out of our shirts (our strange way of saying we're supporting our team.)
The kids showing their (coached) elation after a last second BYU Hail Mary for the win.

Bailey often wants to play out on our driveway. I've found that I have a pretty good view of her from the piano room chair if I'm not feeling like hanging out in the hot sun outside.
It's no wonder we call her Cha Cha.

I'm not sure if ever in the history of preschool there was a girl more excited to start. Tonight was her teacher meet and greet. She's been asking me for weeks, ever since I signed her up, what color is my preschool? What's my teacher's name? Is it a woman or a man? Who's in my preschool? Etc., etc., etc.
Most her questions were answered tonight. Red brick. Mrs. Gloria. A woman. Seven boys and one other girl. Etc., etc., etc.
Bailey was quiet and contemplative during the meet and greet. I think it just got real. The countdown to start day is only 4 days now.

I went to parent orientation at the middle school tonight, and saw this hanging in the hall. It's Sydney's "Me Poster." Some of my favorite parts are "I wish people wouldn't...call me SHORT!" and "This year I hope...I'LL GROW!" One part that's sure to confuse anyone who read this is "At our house we...sit in a bucket of water."

Aunt Ellen and Uncle Rich gifted the kids this fort building set one Christmas many years ago. It's still the coolest toy we own. The pieces go together easily enough that no adult help is required, so the little kids feel especially awesome that they built the fort all by themselves. Unfortunately some of the pieces haven't lasted the seven or eight year of play, and this set is no longer made. Such a shame. I'd buy another set in a heartbeat.

They were all very excited to get back to school. Except Erik. Don't let his smile fool you.

Recap continued. I give you fair warning that many of these pictures are of just everyday Foster life. Pretty boring.
Jeff and I were asked to be a Ma and Pa for a family of youth on the stake pioneer trek. It was hot and sweaty, but these were great kids.
Jeff finding us the nearest shower at a state park after trek was over.
Bowling with Grandpa and Grandma Foster who were kind enough to come to Texas and hold down the fort at our house while Jeff and I were on trek.
Super lame 4th of July fireworks. Definitely need to find a way to get back to Edmond, Oklahoma for the fourth again.
Syd and her friend all made-up for their homemade horror film.
Above is the damage seen at night right after the storm hit. Mostly just some furniture moved and cushions in my plants. Below is what my garden looked like the next morning. My poor corn.
Swimming lessons
Picture taken for Bailey of super-long truck
Lagoon, the highlight of the Summer for the kids.
Temple Square

BYU campus. This is the inside of the library, where I worked for all four years of college. It still smells the same. It made me happy.
